I love their hamburgers and gumbo!

Nothing was average here. On our first visit sampled the gumbo and hush-puppies. Simply delicious! The gumbo should win awards (if it doesn't already) Excellent staff that actually were happy and helpful with special requests. Prices good and food fantastic.Second visit tried the amazing onion rings, hamburger and more gumbo. Best onion rings I can remember. Perfectly seasoned and crisp not to thin or too fat slices of fresh onion. Their beefy, juicy, hamburger was cooked just right and served on what tasted like a freshly baked homemade bun. Fries were also perfect in size, texture and flavor. Great sweet tea to wash it all down, a very pleasant dining experience each time. You have to try this place, you won't be disappointed.

The food was so good. The feied okra and shrimp weren't over cooked. The onion rings are fabulous.

SERVICE WAS AWESOME! I had the lunch buffet and it was not that great. The meatloaf had a spaghetti meat sauce on it and the chicken fried steak was a SISCO school lunch one, but the sides seemed to be made from scratch and they were good.

He has really good food and the prices are fair the service was great they really make you feel welcome

Food very good. James as crazy as ever very likeable and all employees very nice and on top of everything making sure one has everything you need. Enjoy going to James Brown's Gumbo House anytime but on Thursday the dumplings taste like your Mom's or Grandmama's.

I really enjoyed eating here. I had: a cup of chicken gumbo, cup of shrimp gumbo and Jb's Catfish and crawfish etouffee. Needless to say I was very full and very happy. My waitress was very friendly and my sweet tea was never empty. I will definitely be back. Tina you were right.

Amazing food for a great price!! Great home cooked food!!

Just walked in and everybody was friendly and helpful. The food was cooked fresh and looked amazing. I've been wanting to try out this place for a while and finally took a chance on it. Here's a couple photos below of the Butterfly Shrimp, Baked Potato and Okra. Have a blessed day!!!

One would think that with the word gumbo in their restaurant name that it would be spot on. Not in this case. I got a cup mist of it rice. The potato salad served with it was so pickle/fill/vinegar based it was hard to eat. The actual gumbo taste wasn't there. It was more like a flavored broth. I was edible don't get me wrong, but not a gumbo like I wanted.

First of all, we drove from Houston to Vidor to drop off a patient. We work in EMS and we had a long shift plus had a long drive back home. We looked up good spots to eat in Vidor, before our depature, and James Brown's Gumbo House and Grill came with great reviews. So we tried it out. Lets start with the service: Our server, Crystal from what I recall, was exceptional in recommendations, very attentive, and friendly. The food: I was recommended the chicken fried chicken... this meal was delicious!!! They sure use the right batter with great seasoning. I also tried the onion rings with their dipping sauce... which i highly recommend. Thanks to our server!! My EMS partner and I are very grateful to the patron who paid for our meals!!! You are a blessing!

James Brown wasn't there, when he's there it's better. Gumbo was ok,fried fish & hush puppies too hard cooked too long,1 piece fish could not eat, I had Gumbo,a friend was with me 1st time there,they had fish. Service was fine,but food wasn't as good because J.B. wasn't there.

The food is always amazing! Try the fried pickles. They have the best around imo

Stopped here for the first time on 3/9/18 ordering several different entrees. The food was good as well as our waitress Katie who took very good care of us.Food was received quickly. We will be back, good Lord willing.

Outstanding.for more than 30 years. I have known James Brown from when we worked on the radio together at B KZZB 95 on Calder avenue in Beaumont. I know for a fact that the extraordinary food and service at the restaurant is beyond the beyond. It was such a pleasure having the opportunity to see James Brown after so many years out of radio. He looks good and he's doing just dandy. Stop by and see James Brown.

Everything on the menu was delicious, some of the best cajun food I've had in Texas! Prices are right too! Go with the boudain balls and the chicken sausage gumbo!!!

Love to try new restaurants in the area and took a shot at this one. Unfortunately the service was very slow even when it wasn't that busy, and the food was sub-standard. I ordered fried oysters and had four different ones with pieces of shell in them. Obiously they didn't clean them well. The green beans were canned with no flavor whatsoever. I usually give everyone a second chance but James is supposedly a good cook, so if this was his best effort then good luck keeping that place open long.

Good atmosphere, nice people. Have eaten here before and enjoyed it but this time the food wasnt very good. The oysters had a muddy, grainy taste to them, the fish was oily tasting, the french fries were soggy, and the gumbo tasted like the roux was burnt.

Homey family atmosphere. Everything we've eaten has been very tasty, cuz we know all ofJ B's recipes are yummy! A very good place to stop when you don't have a lot of time, and it's real food, good service....thanks JB!
